Ersin Kalaycıoğlu is a Professor Emeritus at Sabancı University’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.. Prior to his tenure at Sabancı University, Kalaycıoğlu was the Rector of Işık University between 2004 and 2007. From 2002 to 2004, Kalaycıoğlu taught at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Sabancı University. In his long career, Kalaycıoğlu has taught at various U.S. universities, including the University of Iowa (Department of Political Science, Spring, and Summer of 1980-1981) and at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (during the 1989-1990 and 1998-1999), in the capacity of visiting scholar. He also taught at Boğaziçi University as full-time faculty member between fall 1984 and spring 2002. He started his academic career at Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics in fall 1977 and taught until spring 1982. He remained with the Faculty of Political Science of the same university between fall 1982 and spring 1984. Currently, Kalaycıoğlu is a Board Member of the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation and also a member of the Turkish Political Science Association, Turkish Social Science Association, and Middle Eastern Studies Association of North America (MESA).

Kalaycıoğlu has designed and conducted a broad range of survey research projects that have contributed immensely to social sciences. The most notable among Kalaycıoğlu’s research are “Political Conditions of Rural Economic Development Project” (with İlter Turan, 1978-1980) “The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA),” where he surveyed the career patterns and political attitudes of the deputies of the XVIIth Assembly (1984) and of the XVIIIth Assembly (1988), “Turkish Values” (with Üstun Ergüder and Yılmaz Esmer, 1990), “Socio-political orientations and attitudes in Turkey” (with Ali Carkoglu, 2006).

Ersin Kalaycıoğlu received his undergraduate degree from Istanbul University’s Faculty of Economics in 1973 (major in Economics, minor in Political Science and Statistics). He continued his education at The University of Iowa, Department of Political Science, and received his MA in 1975, and his Ph.D. in 1977.
