Borges’s politics no doubt have been held against his literary accomplishments more often than his defenders seek to protect the autonomy of the aesthetic from all political contamination. In this presentation, Bruno Bosteels, Professor of Romance Studies at Cornell University, will argue against both approaches by beginning to study how the rules and operations of Borges’s writing, including in the name of what the Argentine calls el hecho estético, are inextricably literary and ideological at the same time.
