Business and Education Workshop

Date:

Tuesday, May 28, 2019, 9:00am to 3:00pm

Location:

Dag Hammarskjold 3269, Vitacura

The idea behind the workshop arose from the Creating Emerging Markets project at the Harvard Business School, which explores leadership in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East over recent decades. At its core are 120 interviews by Harvard faculty with high impact leaders in business and social enterprise, including to date 45 from Latin America and 10 from Chile. The project has identified a very high percentage of companies across regions which are investing in education, although with considerable diversity in approaches and goals.

The overall goal of the meeting will be for top business leaders in Chile to discuss and share their experiences in Business and Education, guided by senior Harvard faculty who will share their latest research and projects. The goal is to assess what has been achieved already in Chile and to explore what needs to be done next. The workshop will be organized around three central themes of opportunities, challenges and leadership.

The founder, and co-director, of the CEM project, Professor Geoffrey Jones, will be at the Workshop. He will present the results of the global project to share who is doing what, where, around the world. He will be joined by Professors Richard Elmore and Daniel Gray Wilson from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. During the day Professor Elmore will discuss his latest research on the changing landscape of learning and leadership in education. Professor Wilson will discuss Harvard’s Project Zero, the drivers of organizational interest in education, and new research on informal learning in the workplace.
