The demonstrated success of the DRCLAS Office in Santiago inspired the establishment of a second overseas office in 2006 in Sao Paulo, Brazil and in 2012 of an office in Mexico City. Today, other Harvard centers are following our model in establishing offices in Shanghai and Johannesburg. DRCLAS leads the many other centers at Harvard both in our overseas presence and in our broad coverage of the disciplines.

Celebrating the 15 years of its fruitful operations, the Harvard DRCLAS Regional Office in Chile will launch an eBook showcasing the work of Harvard professors in Chile, written by Nieman Fellow ’13 journalist Paula Molina .

During 15 years, Harvard faculty members have traveled to Chile to learn and explore. Academics have found inspiration in a country with various unique features: the clearest skies for stargazing, among the oldest scientific settlements in Antarctica, the most intense earthquakes in recorded history, relics of the Inka Empire, among many others. With her book, Paula Molina finds and tells stories about lessons and findings made in Chile and reveals "how curiosity, empathy, and love for knowledge can guide us to unexpected places."

The event will mark the book's publication for general public access with a panel discussion featuring professors Gary Urton and Donald Pfister, as well as other professors that have worked or currently work on research in Chile.

A cocktail reception will follow. Please join us for this celebration!
