Location:

CGIS South, S020, 1730 Cambridge Street

The Paraguay Conference 2019: Beyond Perceptions is an initiative of the Harvard Paraguayan Students Association, a new university-wide student organization composed of Paraguayan and international students interested in Paraguayan national development. The organization brings together students, scholars and practitioners within the Harvard community and at neighboring universities in the greater Boston area to explore interdisciplinary topics of strategic importance in Paraguay.

The event will convene an international audience of representatives from public institutions, the private sector, civil society and academia to engage in a vibrant cross-sector dialogue around challenges, opportunities and visions for the future of Paraguay. A central theme of the conference will be elevating Paraguayan innovations that are being exported across the world and identifying international best practices with the potential to inform existing approaches to sustainable development in Paraguay. We aim to shift the deficit-based narrative which typically portrays Paraguay as ‘developing’ or ‘marginalized’ to one focused on the promise of its global contributions and ambitions. We will showcase the success stories of changemakers and unpack pressing public problems that the nation must address. It is our hope that this inaugural event will become a legacy initiative at Harvard University that inspires emerging leaders to lend their resources, expertise and social capital to foster meaningful exchanges towards Paraguayan innovation.
