BECAS CONICYT Partnership

BECAS Chile (Scholarships Chile) and CONICYT (The National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research), together with the Ministry of Education, and the Government of Chile, partner with Harvard University to reaffirm their commitment to the training of 'Advanced Human Capital' through financing of graduate studies for Chilean students at Harvard. This program seeks to contribute to the scientific, economic, social and cultural development of Chile by providing educational opportunities at top universities abroad, including Harvard University.

Harvard - Universidad de Chile Law School Exchange

The Universidad de Chile is the country’s oldest and largest public institution of higher education, and remains closely linked to the country’s political, economic, artistic and cultural life.  HLS students enrolled in the exchange program can choose from hundreds of undergraduate and graduate courses at the School of Law.

Harvard Medical School Clerkship Exchange

Harvard Medical School (HMS) has created an opportunity for Chilean students in their final year of studying medicine at Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile to participate in month-long clinical rotations at Harvard Medical School.

Coordinated with the HMS Office of Enrichment Programs, Chilean students are able to participate in the exchange program for free. 

In a reciprocal arrangement, Harvard Medical School students in their final years can participate in month-long clinical rotations at Universidad de Chile and Pontifica Universidad Catolica de Chile without any charges. HMS normally accepts 6 to 8 students annually per university.

For Chilean Students applying to HMS

  • Must currently be a seventh year student at PUC or UCH Medical School
  • Complete all the required documentation (all documents, including immunizations must be submitted in English)
  • Proof of Personal Health Insurance is required in English, specifying coverage and dates
  • Professional liability and malpractice coverage is required (students in the past have used Nexus Insurance Services - please e-mail them directly to receive a quote for a clinical rotation) 
  • Official TOEFL score (must not be lower than 100) sent to:

The application process requires an interview by a Harvard University representative. To set up an appointment, please contact Pilo Mella.

Housing is the responsibility of the students. Listings such as craigslist are recommended for local spaces to rent. It is recommended that students not apply for July and August as this is a vacation period in Boston and there are fewer courses available.

The HMS Registrar's office asks for the immunization reports, health insurance, and transcripts all to be translated into English.

For HMS students applying to a Clinical Rotation in Chile

Students should take Nutrition and Rural Medicine in Latin America ME518M.41 given by Dr. Herrera. This course is an international 8-week clinical elective.
