Each year, the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies (DRCLAS) welcomes a group of academics and professionals who study Latin America for a semester or two of research and writing at Harvard. The Visiting Scholars hail from across the globe, and their fields of study are wide-ranging, with political scientists studying direct democracy coming together alongside documentary filmmakers exploring urban issues. This year's cohort includes several scholars focused on individual countries, delving deeper into dynamics specific to Peru, Colombia, and Brazil, as well as other scholars whose research projects consider topics, such as human rights and the intersection of gender and entrepreneurship, across the region of Latin America as a whole.
Complementing the robust roster of Visiting Scholars, DRCLAS will welcome two additional distinguished academics as Robert F. Kennedy Visiting Professors in the Fall of 2018: Rosa Montes, Director of Research at Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla in Mexico, will be hosted by the Harvard Graduate School of Education; and Pablo Allard, of the Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile, will be hosted by the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
The time at Harvard for all of these scholars is designed to stimulate cross-disciplinary exchange, both among the cohort of scholars at DRCLAS and between the cohort and the greater Harvard community. The public is invited to attend the many DRCLAS programs throughout the year that will feature the Visiting Scholars and the Robert F. Kennedy Visiting Professors.
