Juan Torbidoni

Juan Torbidoni is a PhD candidate in the department of Comparative Literature at Harvard University and holds an MA in humanities and social thought from New York University. His research interests include Latin American literature, continental philosophy, critical theory, cultural and urban studies, and psychoanalysis. By exploring the work of Macedonio Fernández, Jorge Luis Borges, and Leopoldo Marechal, Juan’s dissertation contends that the transformation of Buenos Aires into a modern city during the first half of the twentieth century elicited not only discourses of frantic enthusiasm, but also of mourning and melancholia vis-à- vis the loss of affect in the modern metropolis.
