A Peruvian of African, Indigenous, and Hispanic descent, Luis Martin obtained his doctorate in Social Justice Education at UMass-Amherst

with a dissertation on Afro-Peruvian Perspectives and Critiques of Intercultural Policies in 2012. Currently, he teaches Ethics, Philosophy, and Education at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) in Lima city. His research explores the intersections of ethnicity, gender, social class, and formal education in the functioning of Peruvian and Latin American societies. In recent years he has worked as a consultant for the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture in topics about intercultural education, cultural policies, and Afro-Peruvian studies. He has written three novels and numerous short stories, some of which have obtained recognition in national and international contests. His most recent publication released in 2018 was (Auto)Recognition of Afroperuanity in Peruvian Education [in Spanish].
