Project: Child Grammar of Chuj Maya

Pedro Mateo Pedro received a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Kansas. His research focuses on the documentation and acquisition of Mayan languages spoken in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras. His work explores the relationship between language and culture and expands the research on understudied and endangered languages. He currently teaches at the Escuela Linguistica at the Universidad Mariano Gálvez de Guatemala and has been a Fellow at the Polinsky Language Science Laboratory at Harvard. His manuscript, The Acquisition of Q’anjob al Maya, has been accepted for publication. He has been recognized with grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Sciene Foundation, as well as the CIESAS in Mexico.
