Seminar Series and Working Groups

Thanks to a generous gift from Claudio Haddad, the Brazil Studies Program will welcome proposals for seminar series and research workshops in focused areas of research or around specific themes about Brazil. Priority will be given to proposals that engage faculty and students with common interests, preferably from more than one department or school.

Seminar Series

Seminar series, which feature talks from invited speakers and from faculty and advanced graduate students on campus, may be proposed for one semester or the entire academic year. The faculty member will be responsible for organizing the logistics of the seminars.

Who is eligible?

The applicant must be a lecturer with multi-year appointment or an Assistant, Associate or full Professor employed full-time by Harvard University in any Harvard Department or School.  The Brazil Studies Program Manager will be responsible for verifying that applicants meet these criteria.

Benefits

The maximum award for a semester-long seminar series is $3000 ($6000 for the academic year). We will reimburse actual expenses.

How to Apply?

Applications should consist of a maximum 1000-word proposal with information about the overall objectives of the seminar series, ideas about whom you would invite, and budgetary information.

Application materials should be sent in a single email to Juliana Deleo (jdeleo@fas.harvard.edu) with the subject "Application to BSP Funding".

Deadline: March 5, 2019. Applicants will be notified by April 19.

Working Group Support

We also invite proposals to form working groups of faculty and graduate students on themes of interest that will meet periodically to share work in progress. These may take place over the course of an academic year or semester. Groups may propose to bring an outside speaker once a semester to present a paper.
