In a broader sense, disruption is an interruption to the current state of things. It can also mean creating solutions for problems that have been historically overlooked, ignored, or have affected neglected populations. By focusing on unattended or previously non-existing problems, disruption leads to questioning conventional thinking and practices. In Colombia, both the pre-pandemic crises and its devastating effects have highlighted unique challenges we face as a country. Current conditions require us to imagine and rethink a world where the old normal is no longer retrievable (nor we wish it to be) while many challenges of the past remain. How do we build and rebuild from now on? Disruptive thinking and disruptive solutions become an alternative to face the new challenges resulting from the pandemic, to counteract the exclusion suffered by some communities, the disadvantages of globalization, the belligerent responses to conflicts, the invisibility of ancestral cultures and technologies, and the unsustainable growth. In this way, the Colombian Conference 2021: Disruptive Solutions for Challenging Times, brings together various actors that have successfully implemented disruptive solutions across diverse disciplines.
