Clémence Jouët-Pastré Brazil Travel Fellowship

Inspired by the memory of Clémence Jouët-Pastré, who as Senior Preceptor in Romance Languages and Literatures opened the doors for hundreds of Harvard students to study and experience Brazil, the fellowship award can be utilized to support research, language study, volunteer work and/or independent projects spanning any field or topic.

Eligibility

Undergraduates (sophomore and junior) and graduating seniors are eligible to apply for this fellowship. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a deep understanding of Brazilian culture and who clearly articulate how the fellowship will enable them to follow an academic, professional or personal calling.

Availablity of Funding

Established by former students, colleagues and friends of Clémence Jouët-Pastré, the Fellowship will provide a stipend of up to $10,000 (pending available funding) for Harvard College undergraduates or graduating seniors to spend 3-6 months in Brazil.

Application Requirements

Application materials must be submitted through the Centralized Application for Research and Travel (CARAT).

  • A current unofficial transcript
  • An essay/proposal (of up to 1,000 words) that outlines the candidate’s plans for spending 3-6 months in Brazil, reasons for applying for the fellowship, and expectations on how the time abroad will contribute to the candidate’s individual development
  • Budget detailing estimates of how the stipend will be spent
  • Updated resume including at least one reference
  • Letter of invitation (if applicable) from Brazilian host institution, research advisor, etc
